All Washington cities and counties must adopt a Critical Areas Ordinance to protect the environment and reduce exposure to risks. Port Townsend began updating our Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO) several years ago. We completed the update in early 2025 to align with our Comprehensive Plan Periodic Review. The Critical Area Ordinance was adopted through Resolution 3348 on March 17, 2025.
